Why Are Cops Tasering Grandmothers, Pregnant Women and Kids?

Police officers are brutalizing innocent civilians with accelerating lunacy. How did this happen? How can we make it stop?

Technology is a double-edged sword, the cliche goes. It can save and even extend your life, but it can also kill you in new and unpredictable ways. In the several years since the Arizona-based Taser International has deployed its terminologically challenging Electronic Control Devices (ECDs), colloquially known as stun guns or simply tasers, what started out as a midrange law enforcement weapon has turned into a surreal nightmare that has gone viral from streets to screens. It’s now to the point that only a hyperreal comedian like Stephen Colbert can make sense of it.

“Nation, our gun rights are always under attack from the bleeding hearts,” he cracked in late July, “and not just the hearts bleeding from a gunshot wound. Thankfully, there’s the taser. It’s the perfect weapon for when you really want to shoot someone, but killing them just seems like overkill.”

Jefferson County Alabama

Posted by truthpills on 2009/08/21

August 20, 2009

As of thursday 8/20/09 an unprecedented move is taking place in Jefferson County Alabama, the fiscally troubled county forced into dire straits. According to sources, the two jail facilities will be combined into one ……the 200 inmates in the Bessemer facility will be added to the already 1000 inmates in the Birmingham facility. At sunrise today they are to be transported to Birmingham with all Deputies except a skeleton crew to handle the courts , going to Birmingham to handle the transfer. The jail at Bessemer, the 9th most violent city in America, will be closed this friday 8/21/09 however, this facility actually has an unopened floor and would provide a combined 400 bed facility perhaps destined for other activities.

A source in that area has stated that it might be taken over in the near future by DHS squads and has potential to be used for a holding facility under Martial Law during the expected mass civil uprisings that DHS is planning and training for due to a Bank Holiday that is highly probable and the impending Flu Pandemic which may according to expert virologists be extremely deadly. Intelligence deep background sources have also stated that they expect this to be some engineered Hemorrhagic Type Flu with Ebola like severe internal bleeding as the likely cause of millions of deaths. These two events are what LEOS and the troops of NORTHCOM including thousands of foreign troops and mercenaries are currently training for all over the country.

Cardholders Get Rude Surprise at the Register

Posted by truthpills on 2009/08/21

In March, Mary Horowitz was trying to pay for a birthday spa treatment when she learned that American Express had canceled her card.

The Durham, N.C., lawyer spent the afternoon on the phone with AmEx customer service. Representatives told her that her card was canceled and that a letter was on its way that would tell her more. Ms. Horowitz had received no advanced notification of the cancellation and had successfully used the card two weeks before.

“The spa was great,” she says, “but it was a pitiful day.”

A few days after the spa incident, she received a letter confirming that the issuer had cut her off because of information contained in her credit report. She checked her credit report, and it was clean except for a late car payment in December 2005, she says.

More and more consumers are getting to the cash register to find that their credit cards have been canceled without their knowledge. Consumers say that it is often embarrassing to have a card declined in front of friends and other customers, and that it is frustrating when customer service is able to confirm only that the card was canceled, but not why.

Why the U.S. May Be Going from Dependence on Mideast Oil to Rare Metals from China

Posted by truthpills on 2009/08/21

By Craig Canine, OnEarth Magazine. Posted August 18, 2009.

This story originally appeared in OnEarth Magazine.

Interstate 15 as it crosses the Mojave Desert between Los Angeles and Las Vegas is one of the most remote and desolate stretches of superhighway in the United States. Here and there, a roadside oddity — like the world’s tallest thermometer in Baker, California — punctuates the endless sagebrush and sere mountain landscapes. Yet the most unusual landmark does not appear on any tourist map. About 15 miles south of the Nevada border lies the tiny town of Mountain Pass, California, where a cluster of low buildings and industrial equipment hints at the existence, just over a low ridge, of a gaping open-pit mine roughly a quarter-mile across and 500 feet deep. For decades after it opened in the early 1950s, this was the world’s premier source of the metals known as rare earths — a group of 17 elements with exotic-sounding names like lanthanum, neodymium, yttrium, and erbium. But the mine shut down in 2002, a casualty of environmental violations and plunging global prices. Today, this eerily quiet hole in the Mojave is the world’s largest symbol of a brewing crisis, as the United States and other developed countries risk trading their addiction to oil for a new form of energy dependence.

Rare earths are essential ingredients in a host of high-tech gadgets, including automotive catalytic converters, air-bag sensors, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines, and precision-guided missiles. Although they are produced and used in tiny quantities, rare earths and a few other obscure metals such as indium and gallium are also essential ingredients in virtually every sustainable energy technology. Lanthanum, for example, is required to make nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries, which are used in hybrid cars. Energy-efficient fluorescent lightbulbs contain small amounts of both yttrium and europium. “Super magnets” made with neodymium form the heart of compact but powerful motors and generators like those used in wind turbines, today’s hybrid cars, and tomorrow’s plug-in electric vehicles.
